Web Design and Web Development are not the same thing.

The design portion of a website is often one of the only elements. The customer has a look in mind (or wants us to make one up), wants to present some information to the end-user, gives us his/her marketing materials/logos, and we make a pretty, yet functional website for them. That is all design work.

Sometimes, you want your website to do something more than static pages can allow. You may want to present some data interactively, have the end-user submit some data to you, bring the end-user into a private area, or a chatroom, or even have some discussions on your web pages.

How much does it cost?

Asking "How much is a website?" is a little like asking "How much is a car?". The answer all depends on what kind of car you want, and what that car is to be used for (is it to carry cargo, impress the neighbors, get you a date, or to drive you from point A to point B?).
